Being an artist is not only difficult but it can also be expensive. It is difficult because you need to have a natural talent for art as well as the motivation and inspiration to create and progress. If you have the talent and the vision then you should be prepared to buy a huge lot of art supplies. You will find you will go through them quickly! Good quality art supplies means better paintings; if you cannot afford them then it does not mean that you should stop painting, as there are cheaper alternatives out there and excellent deals on art materials can be found.

With such a wide range of Art Supplies available in market, deciding what you need can be daunting. All art supplies come with different price range and quality. You can choose the best items that you can afford or the ones that best meet your requirements within your budget. You will find there are certain things worth spending more on and certain things where you can afford to be more price-concious.

These are the basics such as;

1. Sketchbook/Journal - Useful for noting down ideas as they develop. Aim for a decent paper but a flashy cover adds ££'s!

2. Palette - A couple of basic palettes are invaluable. By all means buy a more expensive ceramic for watercolours but simple plastic or wooden palettes will be fine for oils and acrylics, as you will probably need to replace them quite regularly.

3. Water Spray - For extending the drying time of paints on the palette. Just a simple fine mist sprayer bottle.

4. Brushes - For mixing paint, applying varnish and other such brush-wrecking activities! Save your decent brushes for creating your artworks.
